Innovation for new technology is a broad subject covering various aspects of innovation from new product development practices to considerations of resulting intellectual property. Many of the problems facing the successful implementation of a new technology are commercial in nature. Inventions frequently comprise intellectual property of one form or another. Patents can be valuable as protection against competition for the owner for a period of time and as a vehicle for acquiring or selling rights to specific technologies.
